• Don Wink
    Senior Pastor

Pastor Don came to Atonement in January, 1999. Prior to becoming a pastor, he worked in business to business sales for three technology companies. He attended seminary at the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago and also has degrees from Southern Methodist University in Texas and Northwestern's Kellogg Graduate School of Management.

At Atonement, his primary responsibilities are leading a very able staff and volunteer leadership core, and carrying half of the teaching schedule during Sunday services. He is humbled by the gifts and passion of Atonement's members and within the wider community, and welcomes the challenge of leading through influence.

Pastor Don is married to Joy Wink. They have three children: Natalie, Josh and Olivia. Their household also includes Joy's mother, Barbara, and two absolutely useless cats. He enjoys cooking, maintaining health and fitness (especially through golf and paddle tennis), music, and time with friends.

  • Charisse Jensen
    Associate Pastor
Pastor Charisse serves as our Minister of Serving Others, a role designed to build ministry teams that help our members and friends serve at and through Atonement, expand our reach as a servant church to the Barrington area and beyond, and facilitate spiritual growth toward spontaneous serving in the lives of our members. She also shares in worship leadership, teaching, and pastoral care.

She is a 2014 graduate of Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago after a 20-year career with the YMCA. Ministry Leaders

  • Helen Ailabouni
    Director of Worship & Music

Helen has served as Atonement’s Director of Worship and Music since 1987. When she began there were two traditional Sunday services, led musically by an ancient electronic organ and one adult choir. Now there are three services, incorporating an incredible variety of talents and resources: a beautiful Holtkamp pipe organ, a grand piano, multiple bell choirs, state-of-the-art sound system, multimedia capability, instrumentalists and singers of all types and ages serving across the morning. Helen says that looking back over these last many years, she is amazed at the growth and change in the worship life at Atonement.

Worship life continues to evolve as we seek to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ through the gift of music. Music in worship reflects the rich bounty found in our Christian heritage as well as the best of the new and contemporary. Over a season, the music Helen leads ranges from the “Schubert liturgy” with orchestral accompaniment to global songs and jazz ensembles. The variety rises out of the gifts found among the people, and she considers it to be her joy to help release those gifts into sound and action each week.

Helen has a husband who serves as a pastor working for the ELCA as a director in Global Mission, and two adult children—who are often seen playing their instruments in worship from time to time as well. Beyond the world of music, Helen enjoys traveling, gardening, reading mystery novels, and eating Rural Route #1 Jalapeno Cheese Popcorn.
